With its wide range of digitization services, NUAMPS is always exploring improved methods of digitizing and archiving unique library collections such as maps from the Melville J. Herskovits Library of African Studies collection, a selection of 31 maps of Paris depicting the city as far back as the 12th century, and the five-volume Robinson’s map of Chicago.
With new archival methods, opportunities arise for new methods of distribution as well. Therefore, as part of its involvement with the NU Library InfoCommons, NUAMPS assisted in the development of an InfoCommons screensaver which displays full views and close-ups of a number of NUAMPS-produced archival images. The screensaver rotates through the collections of images and displays them on unused InfoCommons PC’s and plasma screens, allowing significant NU resources to exist in a publicly visible way.
