Over the past year we’ve been working with the Newberry Library to digitize some of their vast collection of map resources. This week, by special courier from the Newberry we had one very special map from their vault for a few hours. Stefani Foster LaBrecque digitized the “Dodge” map, a hand drawn mid-19th century map under the watchful eye of the Newberry’s own James Akerman. Jim and the Newberry have been long time collaborators with Northwestern University and NUIT. These digitized maps will all appear online as part of the NEH funded “Mapping Movement” online exhibit later in 2013, Jim is the P.I. of this grant funded activity. After acquiring the digital files, the map went safely back via courier to the Newberry’s vault.
