Comprised of 36 full res (250 Mb) Better Light Super 8K-HS scans, the 600 dpi digitization of the NU Library’s 19C map of Evanston is complete. As it has deteriorated significantly, the map, which is approximately 4 by 5 feet in size, has been undergoing extensive conservation work by the library. The final digital deliverable is a 2.63 Gb file, which displays the finest detail at 100% resolution (see sample below for content found within the red box on map above). With working Photoshop file sizes upwards of 5G, this image was a bear to manipulate, but the final output is definitely worth the effort.
