Map Digitization

studio

This morning I had the opportunity to do some work with Stefani Foster in our Digitization Studio. We have been setting up lights and making adjustments to out BetterLight Scanning back in preparation for capture of a piece from the Northwestern University Library Collection. The piece in question is a rare 19th century map of Evanston that is undergoing conservation treatment. Due to the size of the map (4ft by 5ft) and the method of storage (it’s been rolled up for some time), we have some challenges ahead of us in terms of keeping the map flat and in focus. Fortunately, we’re no strangers to these obstacles and I’m confident we’ll get some good results!
