I have spent most of the spring working on a documentary on the Oncofertility Saturday Academy, featuring footage shot by student Alex Knell and interviews with Dr. Teresa Woodruff, Megan Faurot, Young Women’s Leadership Charter School’s Margaret Small, and several OSA students. OSA is a 2 year program that gives juniors and seniors from YWLCS the opportunity to work closely with top scientists, doctors, and researchers in the fields of oncofertility, cancer biology, and reproductive science. This unique experience gives the girls the knowledge and confidence to venture into careers where they are typically underrepresented, as well as providing them with role models, lifelong friendships, and invaluable life lessons.
The documentary explores the growth of these high school girls, the OSA sisters, into strong and confident young women leaders, most of them interested in pursuing careers in science and medicine. The film will premiere July 23 at 7:00pm at the McCormick Tribune Center Forum at Northwestern University’s Evanston Campus.
