A technological first in Timbuktu

Surfing to the NUAMPS blog from the outside of the lab on an iPod touch.

Besides the training in the lab, and the documentation of the manuscripts, there is another aspect of this project which is putting in place technologies that would be no different were this lab in New york, or Evanston. This afternoon we set up an Apple Base station extreme on the existing network that was installed here as part of this NUAMPS/ALUKA/SAVAMA project plan. Hamidou told us this was the first wifi in Timbuktu. The bits that make up these posts are being made by flying through the Saharan ether. An old saying here is “wisdom flows from Timbuktu”.
